Television & Broadcasting

In 2005 to 2007, I presented and co-wrote two BBC 2 television series called The Curious House Guest, visiting many great country houses such as Burghley House and Holkham Hall, and have appeared in other programmes as an expert and commentator including the Greatest Hotels of the World, Britain’s Best, The Country House Revealed and Edwardian Supersize Me.

Writing

I am the author of over twenty books, mostly to do with the English country house and ranging over many related subjects including interiors and collecting, the history of the country house servant, the significance of ruins, new country house architecture. In 2018, I co-edited, with Prof Sir David Cannadine, a major survey of the changing reputation of the English country house in both private and institutional hands, The Country House: Past, Present, Future.
